My Favorite Application Combo

Hello again everybody.  I tend to use several applications as once but I found a great combo that has become my favorite and, I can do it on Ubuntu.  Below are the two applications.

     First up is Keepass 2.

Keepass 2 is a easy way to keep track of your passwords and usernames.  It stores all your passwords in a database file and then encrypts the database file with 256 bit encryption.  You need to set a master password to get at your list of passwords but now that master is the only one you need to remember.  It is free and available in the Ubuntu Software Center.

     Next up, Dropbox.

Dropbox is a amazing application.  It is cloud storage that is NOT owned by any big corporations like Google of Microsoft.  You can install the application on your computer locally or access your files through the web interface.  Any files that are in your Dropbox that you modify are automatically updates across all your devices.  Dropbox is also uses very little bandwidth because it does not save the file brand new every time you modify it, it only updates the modification you made.  Dropbox is available for Ubuntu in the Software Center and is free up to a few gigabytes.

Now how I use them together in my combo.

I have Dropbox on several computers.  I keep my Keepass database file in my Dropbox.  Now not matter what machine I am at, I have a up to date Keepass.  Any time I save a new password in Keepass, Dropbox updates my file among all my machines so I am never short a password.

I am sure a lot of people already use these two applications together like this but I was thrilled to find out that it can be done on my Ubuntu machine as well.  Just another reason Ubuntu is so amazing!!!!!!!!
